As you all know, Salon des Refuses is curating a programme of rejected shorts for Cine East as part of the East End Film Festival, and here are the details you’ve all been waiting for! The screening will of course be FREE and will take place at 3pm at Juno on Shoreditch High Street. See you all there!

We are delighted to announce that the next Salon will take place on JULY 1ST. The event will be part of the Cine-East strand of the East End Film Festival and will feature a selection of shorts which were not accepted into the official programme. More details to follow but get that date in your diaries!

We are extremely excited to annouce that for our next Salon event, we will be screening a selection of shorts rejected by Flatpack Festival in Birmingham. For full programme listings (well worth a trip to Birmingham for, we promise!) see here, but our event will be

We are proud to announce that our programme of refusés screening THIS Saturday at the Shortwave Cinema will include the following gems:

THE HALF LIGHT, dir Prasanna Puwanarajah (UK, 13 mins) - A man yearning for a touch of the past searches for a simple beacon of tungsten light in a darkened world, under-lit by energy-saving lightbulbs.

VANISHING, dir Bartosz Kruhlik (Poland, 20 mins) - A teenage boy’s disappearance uncovers some painful family truths.

THE FOX, dir Tony Burke (UK, 4 mins) - A lonely God-fearing spinster is woken in the middle of the night by a fox’s distant and eerie mating calls. She decides to join in.

OUR ORDERED LIVES, dir Christine Entwhistle (UK, 10 mins) - A young girl solemnly carries out an act of love.

WHERE THERE’S SMOKE, dir Andrew Brand (UK, 15 mins) - A couple’s troubled relationship collides with a stranger’s good intentions.

BENCH SEAT, dir Anna Mastro (USA, 19 mins) - A teenage couple’s failure to communicate is set against the glossy background of a real-life high school musical.

We are very excited to announce that we’re currently accepting entries for our February Salon (date, time and screening venue to be confirmed shortly). We accept documentaries, animations, experimental films, music videos and fiction shorts from anywhere in the world, as long as they’re less than an hour long and have been rejected from at least one festival. In order to submit, you just need to send us the following information:

Title
Director
Country of Production
Duration
Festivals from which you’ve been rejected
Festivals to which you’ve been accepted

You can either email us this information including a link to view your film online (please use FEB 2012 SUBMISSIONS as your subject heading) or send a hard copy of your film to SALON DES REFUSES (c/o Kirsty Dootson) 31 Shakleton Road, Coventry, England, CV5 6HT. Sunday’s programme comprises shorts which were not included in the official selection of the 9^th London Short Film Festival, but which we feel deserve to be celebrated and showcased.

We are delighted to announce that we will once again be guest-curating a programme of shorts as part of LSFF 2012. We will be screening a selection of shorts rejected by the official selection process of LSFF on Sunday January 15th at 15:00 at Shortwave Cinema in Bermondsey.
